To be clear, I am not evil nor do I aspire to be, but I strongly vibe with the supervillain aesthetic. 🦹
My mum was always the DM when we played AD&D. She called bags of holding Birkin bags. I saw a Hermès shop in Paris and asked about a Birkin bag of holding. After explaining, the assistant laughed me out of the shop. I was only 12 and still believed in magic.
Today East Essex Hackspace celebrated its 8th birthday! 🎂🔥
Our first meeting was in a Scout hut, and for almost six years the Pavilion has been our home.
Since then, we’ve grown into a community of nearly 400 members, making, fixing, learning and sharing skills together.
And yes, we lit the birthday cake with a MAP gas blowtorch. It felt appropriate.
Happy 8th birthday, East Essex Hackspace! 🎉
While world leaders gave speeches about a world in crisis at the UN, Mayor Mamdani made the case for rebuilding trust in democracy by filling potholes, more than 200,000 of them since he took office.
Politics has to translate to the pavement. If government can't fix the block where you live, why would anyone believe it can fix anything bigger?

…On a related note, I heard a few days ago that on Jersey car drivers are pissed off that cyclists don’t use the cycle paths. I don’t know what they’re like there but if Portsmouth is anything to go by, they’ll be badly designed, and that’ll be partly why cyclists don’t want to use them.
But of course this is viewed as being the cyclists’ fault
…Portsmouth sea front west now has a very expensive ‘separated’ 2-lane cycle way but it’s regarded by motorists who have parked by it as a pavement.
The road itself is now one-way, which I can use if heading west, but returning east I’m obliged to enter the zone of everybody being pissed off that a cyclist is actually using the cycle way 🙄
People should differentiate "I don't like" and "this is bad". "I don't like jazz" is personal subjective, it does not mean it's bad, just that it is not to ones taste. "Political corruption is bad" is a statement of objective fact, it is a harm and net negative.

"Southern California swelters as late-season heatwave smothers region"
I feel like "late season heatwave" is a way of describing "the consequences of billionaire nazi cultists doing everything in their power to ensure we keep burning the oil they own that makes them rich" that says a lot about your intentions - and none of what it is saying, is good.
If you are an Android user, you may have noticed it already: Google has begun allowing rival, third-party app stores to be distributed through the Google Play Store. And if you are a developer, you may have noticed new options for billing and distributing your apps. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/10/challengers-approach-third-party-app-stores-arrive-google-play
@eff Third party appstores are meaningless if the distributed apps still have to comply to all the terms that Google sets. So far it is just 90 days from now until the rug will be pulled: https://keepandroidopen.org/
